Skålatårnet
This is the longest hillside of Norway with 1800 meters to the top! But it is a spectacular and known route, which is really worth to try. At the peak is it possible to stay over in the distinctive lodge.
Geography
Skålatårnet is situated in the Nationalpark of Jostedalen, almost at the northwest border of the Jostedalen glacier.

How to get there
By car: From Oslo it takes about 7-8 hours drive. Take E6 to Otta, continue to Stryn and Olden. When you come to Loen drive in to Loedalen (valley). By the farm Tjugen, there is a car park between the river and the road. The marked track starts right here.
By public transport: Take Nordfjordekspressen to Stryn. Change to a local bus to Loen. From here taxi the few km to the starting point.
Loding
There is an idyllic camping at Tjugen by the lake Loensvatnet.

Tour description (~6 hours)
The first part ist quite steep and goes through a luxuriant forest. Next part is along a wild river with small waterfalls. The view is getting better and better. You are surrounded by fjords, glacier and mountains. Cross the river and the last climb is on rocks. Some parts of the track has steps made by human hands. Enjoy the break at the top or stay a night in the distinctive lodge.
PS! It is a yearly a known race up to Skålatårnet. The best result in 2006 was in 1h 9min!
