ABOUT DNT
DNT (Den Norske Turistforening) - the Norwegian Mountain Touring Association has more than 400 mountain lodges allover Norway. There are three categories of cabins:
- Staffed cabins, means accomadation with, if wanted, three meals (breakfast, lunch packet, filling of your own thermos flask and dinner).
- Self service cabins has dryfood (breakfast, soups, dinner, deserts), whish you pay for and cook yourself.
- Unstaffed cabins has no food, but all equipment to cook.
When the staffed cabins are closed, many have a self-service or unstaffed department at disposal.
As a DNT-member it is discount on accomadation and meals in the huts. To stay in the self service and unstaffed cabins, one has to be a member to get the key. Membership and key can be ordered or paid directly by any DNT-office, in open staffed DNT-huts or in many touristinformations in Norway.
It is not necessary to reservate in advance to stay in the DNT-huts, less you are more than 10 people or want to stay more than two nights. In the private huts they prefer a reservation.
The routes between the lodges are mostly marked from DNT with red T's. The tracks are also marked on the maps, which you can get at many sport and bookstores or at the local office of DNT.
