Rondane
Rondane National Park is Norway´s first established national park and is particularly important as the home of one of our country´s last herds of wild reindeer. The park is dominated by the high peaks, narrow ravines and deep valleys of the Rondane massif. The poor bedrock supports only a sparse vegetation of mainly lichen and heather. Numerous traces of an early hunting culture survived.
The wild reindeers are the remains of the original mountain reindeers settled in large parts of Europe after the last Ice age. The animals are easily frightened and if they flee from important grazing land, they may not return.
There are several cabins in the Nationalpark, which are staffed in the highseason and unstaffed rest of the year. This is a nice area for trekking from hut to hut. In the southern part, around Rondvassbu are several peaks over 2000 m. During the winter it could be lack of snow in the northern part of the park.
